About Enginectra
We are an MEP engineering consulting firm based in Calgary, Canada. We deliver permit-ready mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering drawings for commercial, restaurant, and residential projects in Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and Ontario. We are a small, focused team of engineers and designers working toward a one-week turnaround.
The Role
You will work directly with the Lead Engineer (Daniel Delgado) and the Technical Manager (Daniel Roa) to manage the documentation workflow, quality assurance, and project coordination for Enginectra's engineering deliverables. You will be responsible for ensuring that each set of drawings is complete, consistent, and delivered on time.
This is not a design role. You won't be sizing ductwork or designing electrical systems. However, you need to understand the content of those drawings, as you'll be responsible for reviewing them for completeness, tracking revisions, and coordinating between the design team and the lead engineer.
Important note: Enginectra is a Canadian company and all work — communications, documentation, deliverables, and client coordination — is conducted in English. Strong written and spoken English is essential for this role.
Main Responsibilities
Plan Coordination and Quality Control
- Review sets of mechanical and electrical drawings to verify completeness, consistency, and code compliance before delivery to the customer.
- Maintain QA checklists for IFBP (Issued For Building Permit) deliverables.
- Identify and point out coordination problems between the mechanical and electrical disciplines.
- Ensure that title blocks, schedules, notes, and specifications are accurate and consistent across all sheets.
Documentation and Revision Management
- Manage the flow of documentation from design to review and delivery.
- Track plan reviews in Airtable, ensuring that each review is recorded with its status, responsible party, and date.
- Maintain the project file structure in OneDrive following Enginectra's naming conventions.
- Ensure that the "Issued For Review" and "Issued For Building Permit" packages are complete before sending them.
Project Monitoring and Communication
- Coordinate daily task assignments with the Technical Manager during active project weeks.
- Manage the handovers between the stages of receiving, designing, reviewing, and delivering.
- Prepare weekly status updates for the Lead Engineer on all active projects.
- Respond to and follow up on RFIs (Requests for Information) from general contractors.
Process Improvement and AI Integration
- Identify recurring QA problems and propose process improvements.
- Help build and maintain reusable checklists and templates for floor plans.
- Support AI-assisted QA reviews using Claude or ChatGPT for conflict detection and report generation.
- Document workflows as SOPs so that processes are repeatable and do not depend on a single person.
Requirements
- Education or work experience in architecture, engineering, or building design.
- 2 to 5 years of professional experience, including time spent in a consulting, design, or construction firm.
- Familiarity with MEP drawing sets (mechanical drawings, electrical drawings, schedules, specifications).
- Strong communication skills in English — written and spoken (essential).
- Proficiency in Airtable or similar project tracking tools.
- Ability to learn new tools quickly.
- High level of attention to detail.
- Availability to work Calgary time (8 AM to 4:30 PM MST).
- Residing in Cali or being willing to relocate.
Favorite
- Familiarity with AutoCAD or Revit (for review, not design).
- Experience with the construction and permitting process in Canada (building codes, AHJ procedures, IFBP documentation).
- Fluency in Spanish (the design team is Spanish-speaking).
- Experience with AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT) for document review.
Compensation
- Base: $1,400 CAD per month.
- Performance bonus: Up to $500 CAD/month linked to QA accuracy, meeting delivery deadlines and process documentation milestones.
- Review cycle: Quarterly.
- Growth path: As Enginectra grows, this role can expand into a Project Manager or QA Lead position.
